Erin Boyd

Head of Commercial and CX Data Sciences, Digital Business
The AES Corporation

Erin Boyd is a PhD economist passionate about energy and data. Half quant, half strategist, Erin has worked in over 30 countries throughout the world on a diverse range of projects: masterplans for electrification in Africa and Asia; policies and incentives to attract investment in renewables in developed, emerging and developing countries; demand response and innovative pricing in Europe and the United States; and energy sector development plans the world over; to name but a few. No matter the subject, Erin’s work is always dependent on data-driven insights and state-of-art advanced analytics.

Based in London for 8 years following stints in Tokyo and Ethiopia, her work while overseas entailed rigorous research and modeling to accelerate access to clean and affordable energy in developing countries. In 2014, Erin returned to the US to work for vertically-integrated utilities, including Pacific Gas & Electric. Originally joining PG&E to establish a research and analytics team whose purview was to develop a data-driven strategy and suite of tools to influence customer behavior and incentivize adoption of PG&E’s customer programs, she then moved to overseeing PG&E’s day-ahead and real-time trading floor. In this second role, Erin was tasked with the goal of duplicating her data-driven work on the customer side to the operations of PG&E’s generation portfolio. Following her time with PG&E, Erin joined a San Francisco-based start-up as SVP, Economics and Market Strategy, to develop the company’s go-to-market strategy for a behind-the-meter distributed energy aggregation software platform. Thereafter, she decided to work as an independent consultant supporting energy companies to utilize their data to optimally and efficiently achieve their goals. In her most current role as Director of Commercial and CX AI/ML for the Global Digital team at AES, Erin works with the business and data scientists to execute on value-add projects. Recent Commercial projects include optimizing the bidding behavior into wholesale markets of hydro assets in Columbia as well as storage and wind assets in various US markets. On the Customer side, Erin is currently working on integrating voice bots and speech analytics within customer service operations as well as propensity-to-pay models for billing.

Erin is an avid speaker who has presented worldwide, including TedX, and relishes every opportunity she can to engage with a live audience – Erin even speaks on how to speak.
